Workers shutdown Thisday Newspaper HQ over unpaid wages

The national Union of Printing, Publishing and Paper Product Workers shut down the Lagos office and Headquarters of Popular newspaper, Thisday, last Thursday.

The Newspaper outfit was shutdown because they owe staff over 4 months wages. Nduka Obaigbena, Publisher of ThisDay said the delay in payment of staff wages was due to the attack on his Jabi, Abuja office by members of the Boko Haram sect.

He has promised the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, in an open memo, that he was going to offset the debt within 30 days.

Mr Obaigbena also stated that he respects the rights of workers and they are in the process of re-organizing the company.
