Baba Suwe loses N25 million court case

Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe has lost his N25 million case against the National Drug law enforcement agency (NDLEA) for denying him rights to personal freedom.

In 2011, NDLEA arrested the popular comedian at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport as he tried to board an Air France flight en route Paris. The agency suspected the comedian of drug trafficking after he went through the scanner and some substances were seen in his belly, which turned out to be food.

The Court of appeal had initially ordered NDLEA to pay Baba suwe  N25 million but today they quashed the verdict. According to the court, NDLEA had not violated Mr. Omidina's rights because it sought and got court orders from the federal high court to keep him in custody after the arrested him on the suspicion that he had ingested hard drugs.
