America’s first black president, Barack Obama has been re-elected as the president of the united states. He won his opponent Mitt Romney with 303 electoral votes (thirty three more than he needed) to Romney’s 206. He defeated Romney in key states.
Obama won in the key states of Ohio and Iowa, the Democrat returns to the White House for his second and final term.
Obama tweeted: “This happened because of you. Thank you,” even the results were announced.
Although it was predicted to be a close race, Obama comfortably won in the battleground states, after Romney could not penetrate Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan, despite investing millions of dollars on TV ads.
It does appear President Obama, had been confident of a win, as he spent the day playing basketball at a gym near his Chicago home.
